The Prysmian Group has been awarded a contract from Orsted Wind Power to supply inter-array submarine cables for the 2,852 MW Hornsea 3 offshore wind project in the UK. Prysmian Group will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of the wiring system which will connect the offshore converter station and wind turbines, subject to Orsted taking the final investment decisions. This contract involves the design, manufacture, supply, termination, and testing of the wires, which will cover around 50% of the wind farm's total requirements with approximately 280 km of 66 kV inter-array lines with XLPE insulation.

The delivery of this contract is substantial as offshore wind power has become an essential form of renewable energy. The techniques involve environmental-friendly materials, such as Prysmian's XLPE, to better insulate the wires. The offshore wind farm in the UK is expected to generate clean energy with a capacity of up to 2.4 GW, enough to power more than 2 million homes, over the next decade.

All cable cores involved in this project will be produced at Prysmian's centers in France while the armoring and assembling operation will take place in Germany. The cables are expected to be delivered and completed in 2026.
