Pivot Energy has begun construction on ten new community solar photovoltaic projects in Illinois, USA. Through the Illinois Adjustable Block Program, the portfolio of projects represents 17.1 MW of capacity across Ameren and Commonwealth Edison utility service territories.
Community solar, as opposed to traditional on-site solar energy, allows local households and residents to subscribe to a portion of the electricity generated by a local project. These projects, also known as shared solar or community solar gardens, extend the benefits of solar, such as lower energy costs, to those who do not own their home or do not have enough space for their own solar energy system.
According to the EPA Greenhouse Gas Equivalency Calculator, the portfolio is expected to generate 80 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, offsetting the equivalent of more than 60,000 tons of carbon emissions.
