The Green Energy Auction Bids Evaluation and Awards Committee (GEA-BEAC) of the Philippines' Department of Energy (DOE) has authorized 24 bidders to compete in an auction to allocate 2 GW of renewable energy capacity it launched in January.
A new renewable energy auction, according to the ministry, will take place in 2023. Developers that did not qualify for the previous auction can file their project proposals in the next round.
The government wants to contract 1,260 MW of solar, 380 MW of wind, 230 MW of biomass, and 130 MW of hydropower. The province of Luzon is estimated to receive around 900 MW, while the provinces of Visayas and Mindanao are anticipated to receive 260 MW and 100 MW, respectively.
