The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) will construct a new 230 kV transmission project to handle power from a new coal-fired power station in Mindanao, Philippines.

The NGCP has explained that due to a considerable increase in power delivery to the grid, there is a need for a greater infrastructure that can ensure reliable energy delivery to customers. Additionally, the project will contribute to the provision of power to the Zamboanga Peninsula, which is currently experiencing a problem with power generation.

The Balo-i-Kauswagan-Aurora Transmission Line Project is expected to cost more than US$48 million and will add 600 MW to the grid from GN Power Kauswagan Ltd. Co.'s coal-generated power facility. GN Power has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Association of Mindanao Rural Electric Cooperatives to supply energy to 20 cooperatives. The transmission line is expected to be operational by 2016, ahead of the coal facility's commissioning, subject to passing all regulatory clearances by the Philippines' Energy Regulatory Commission.
