ORIX Corporation has announced that start of the construction of a 6.5 MW geothermal power plant in the Minami-Kayabe region in Hakodate City, Hokkaido. ORIX is targeting completion of the construction and commercial operations by 2022.
Nippon Steel Engineering Co Ltd and Kinden Corporation will be the construction companies for the project.
Once operational, the plant will produce an estimated maximum of 56.94 GWh of electricity per year, which is equivalent to the annual power consumption of some 18,250 homes.
