The Central African Republic (CAR) has inaugurated the 25 MW Danzi solar park and battery energy storage system in Danzi village, about 18km from the capital Bangui.

Spanning 4 ha, this facility has nearly doubled the nation's electricity generation capacity. Producing 40,500 MWh annually, it will cater to the energy needs of 250,000 people. The solar farm's objective is to supplant 90% of the energy currently derived from diesel fuel, leading to a reduction of over 670,000 tonnes in carbon dioxide emissions. Developed through a collaborative effort between the government and the World Bank, the Danzi Solar Park received grant funding from the International Development Association (IDA). The Danzi solar park is a key component of the broader Electricity Sector Strengthening and Access Project (PARSE), for which the World Bank sanctioned a US$138 million grant in June 2022.

PARSE, with a focus on solar generation, transmission, and distribution network enhancements, aims to facilitate renewable energy integration and increased access. It will support the installation of five mini-grids with a combined capacity of 10 MW, serving 20,000 households in Nola, Bouar, Bossembele, and Bangassou. Additionally, PARSE will reinforce the transmission network through construction and rehabilitation efforts, and the Danzi solar plant's capacity will be expanded from 25 MW to 40 MW. The program includes the provision of off-grid solar systems for households, 300 educational facilities, 300 health centers, and approximately 100 public buildings.
