Careys, a Civil engineering contractor is going to begin the Onshore substation work for the 1.1 GW Inch Cape offshore wind farm located 15km off the Angus Coast in the East of Scotland, UK.
Under a contract with Siemens Energy, Careys will build the onshore substation and all related buildings, as well as the site infrastructure, in preparation for the delivery of transformers and cables that will carry the renewable energy produced by the Inch Cape offshore wind farm. Siemens Energy and its partner Iemants were contracted to provide the onshore and offshore substation package.
In 2018, the Scottish Government approved the application for the onshore substation site filed by Inch Cape Offshore Limited (ICOL), a joint venture firm held equally by Red Rock Power and ESB. The facility consists of 72 V236-15.0 MW wind turbines. Once complete, the project will be one of Scotland’s largest offshore wind farms, generating enough green energy to power the equivalent of half the homes in the country.
