BayWa r.e. has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with SmartestEnergy for the 43.2 MW Broken Cross Onshore Wind Farm in Scotland.
The project, installed at the site of a former coal minе near Rigside in Scotland’s South Lanarkshire is equipped with 9 turbines. The duration of the PPA is 6 years commencing on December 01, 2023, providing BayWa r.e with a viable route-to-market based on SmartestEnergy’s CfD PPA structure.
To facilitate a smooth transition from pre-construction to the CfD commencement date, SmartestEnergy will offer BayWa r.e. a feasible route to market through a customized merchant and CfD offtake arrangement.
Additionally, the project will benefit the community. The villages of Douglas Water, Rigside, Lesmahagow, and Coalburn will share an annual community benefits package of GBP5000 (US$6367) per installed megawatt.
