OnPath Energy has completed the sale of its shares in the recently constructed 67 MW Kype Muir wind farm extension near Strathaven in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, to funds managed by Schroders Greencoat LLP.
The 15-turbine project was the UK’s first to construct turbines reaching a 200-m tip height. Greencoat UK Wind plc has been involved in the Kype Muir wind farm extension since 2021, initially providing a loan that converted into a 49.9% ownership stake in December 2023. Now that construction is complete, funds managed by Schroders Greencoat have acquired the remaining 50.1% of the project shares. The project started supplying clean, renewable electricity to the national grid in December 2022 and can produce up to 67.2 MW of power, expected to meet the average annual electricity needs of around 53,700 households. Built as an extension of OnPath Energy’s adjacent 26-turbine Kype Muir wind farm, it includes four turbines at 156 m, three at 176 m, and eight reaching 200 m in height.
Together with the Kype Muir Wind Farm, the project will offset carbon emissions equivalent to taking 30,700 petrol cars off the road annually. The combined 41 turbines from Kype Muir and its extension generate over 153 MW of electricity, enough to supply renewable power to more than 123,700 homes or a city larger than Aberdeen.
