Vestas to install turbines at 1.1 GW Offshore Wind farm in Scotland

ESB and Red Rock Renewables have signed a deal with Vestas to install 15 MW turbines at the 1.1 GW Inch Cape offshore wind farm located in the North Sea, 15 km from the Angus coast of east Scotland, UK.

The contract formalizes a previous preferred supplier agreement for the supply, installation, and commissioning of 72 units, accompanied by a long-term service and warranty agreement. Each V236 turbine will feature 115 m blades and a rotor diameter of 236 m. The project will connect to the UK national grid at the former coal-fired power station site in Cockenzie, East Lothian.

Inch Cape Project Director John Hill said: "When operational, these turbines will deliver more than 5TWh of renewable electricity each year, making a vital contribution to the UK’s energy security and emissions reduction targets.”

The project is progressing well, with the team aiming for financial closure in late 2024, after which full construction will commence. Turbine installation is scheduled to begin in 2026 using one of Cadeler’s new M-class wind turbine installation vessels.
