OnPath Energy has received approval for a 132 MW Lethans wind farm extension in Scotland.
OnPath Energy will be adding 10 more turbines to its 132 MW Lethan site, with these new turbines reaching up to 251 m in height and 170 m in diameter, making them the tallest onshore turbines approved in the UK so far. This expansion, situated just outside New Cumnock in East Ayrshire, will increase the wind farm's capacity by 60 MW. The extension aims to enhance efficiency and provide low-cost, low-carbon electricity to over 80,000 homes. It will also cut around 45,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, equivalent to removing 22,000 petrol cars from the roads.
Approximately GBP178 million or US$ 228 million (about 60% of the total expenditure) is expected to be invested within 60 km of the site. This wind farm extension will mark another achievement for OnPath Energy, building on the original approval received for the Lethans Wind Farm in 2020 and the Mill Rig Wind Farm in late 2023.
