Environmental data submitted for 100 MW floating wind farm consent in UK

White Cross Offshore Wind Farm Limited has submitted environmental information to support its application to North Devon Council and the Marine Management Organisation (MMO) for the construction and operation of a 100 MW floating offshore wind farm located 52km off the North Devon coast.

The joint venture between Cobra and Flotation Energy plans to construct 6 to 8 floating wind turbines 52 km off the North Devon coast, generating enough electricity to power around 135,000 households. White Cross has supplied new ecological surveys, cable route assessments, updated safety and construction methodologies, and independent site selection reviews.

North Devon Council requested additional environmental information to review White Cross' planning application after consultations in 2023. This includes an updated program of works and methodology addressing public safety, car park, and traffic considerations, as well as landfall construction. It features independent reviews of site selection assessments for the landfall point, cable corridor, and substation site. The wind farm cabling will land at the northern end of Saunton Sands beach near the car park, run underground beneath the golf course, turn south under the Taw Estuary, and connect to the grid at East Yelland.
