OnPath Energy (formerly Banks Renewables) has officially inaugurated a new 15-turbine extension to increase the capacity of its Kype Muir Wind Farm in South Lanarkshire, Scotland, to more than 155 MW.
The wind farm is expected to produce enough renewable electricity to power approximately 53,700 homes each year for the next 30 years. The Kype Muir Extension will significantly expand OnPath Energy's existing 26-turbine Kype Muir Wind Farm. Together, both sites will generate over 155 MW annually, supplying renewable energy to over 123,000 homes, comparable to the energy needs of a city like Aberdeen.
The extension features four 156 m, three 176 m, and eight 200 m-tall wind turbines. Scottish civil engineering firm RJ McLeod (Contractors) Ltd was the principal contractor for both Kype Muir and Kype Muir Wind Farm Extension.
