Diamond Transmission Partners has been selected by UK's Office of Gas and Electricity Markets to own and operate the offshore transmission project that links the Walney Extension wind park.
The scope of the project includes the development of a substation for the Walney 2 wind project located approximately 19 km from shore in the Irish Sea. The power will be transported via a 43 km long undersea cable and about 5 km of onshore cables to the onshore substation at Stanah.
The Walney project is a 659 MW offshore wind complex comprised in two phases, the Walney 1 and 2. Walney 2 consists of 51, 3.6 MW turbines linked to the offshore substation.
Diamond Transmission Partners is a consortium composed of HICL Infrastructure Company Ltd, Mitsubishi Corp unit Diamond Transmission Corporation Ltd and Chubu Electric Power Co Inc.
HICL's 40% stake in the project was expected to be worth approximately £23 million (US$30 million).
The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.
