Ocean Winds has completed the installation of the final turbine, marking full operation of its Îles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier offshore wind farm, developed with industrial partners, off the coast of Vendée in France.
Ocean Winds (OW), the 50–50 joint venture between EDPR and ENGIE focused on offshore wind, has marked a major milestone with the installation of the final turbine at its Îles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier (EMYN) wind farm, completing construction and transitioning the project into full operations. This achievement caps less than 3 years of offshore work, executed amid a complex industrial environment and challenging weather conditions. Situated off the Vendée coast, the EMYN offshore wind farm is now fully installed and operational. Since June 2025, it has been gradually supplying clean electricity to France, with each turbine coming online as installation progressed. With all 61 turbines now running, the project generates enough renewable power to meet the annual needs of nearly 800,000 people, supporting the country’s energy transition.
Blade manufacturing and nacelle assembly were carried out at Siemens Gamesa’s facility in Le Havre, while the offshore substation was constructed by Chantiers de l’Atlantique in Saint-Nazaire, highlighting the capability and mobilisation of France’s industrial sector. Beyond its industrial footprint, the EMYN project has been designed with a strong emphasis on coexistence with other marine users, particularly the fishing community. Ongoing dialogue and close coordination have allowed the project to adapt to local conditions, ensuring alignment with existing maritime activities and demonstrating that offshore wind can be effectively integrated into its surrounding environment.
