The Federal Government of Nigeria has inaugurated the 10 MWp solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Kumbotso. The US$15 million asset is the country's first-ever grid-connected solar farm. This will catalyze the expansion of the country's power industry.

The 2020-tendered solar power plant, constructed on a 24-ha site, was developed by Haske Solar Company, a special-purpose vehicle owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria (80%), Kano State (15%), and Kumbotso Local Government Area (5%).

Currently, Nigeria has an installed capacity of around 2,000 MW for renewable energy.
