NextEnergy Capital has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Statkraft AS for the output of three solar projects in Portugal that add up to 210 MW. The three solar projects will be able to generate electricity for around 98,000 homes per year. The plants will be installed in the municipalities of Cartaxo, Casal do Paul, and Encarnado in the Santarem districts. NextPower III ESG owns the three contracted projects. The duration of the PPA has not been disclosed.
The contract expects Statkraft to secure the entire output of the photovoltaic (PV) parks, which is roughly estimated to be 341 GWh. According to NextEnergy Capital, this agreement is expected to be one of the largest power purchase agreement (PPA) operations in the history of Portugal.
This deal signals an ongoing trend by NextEnergy Capital to expand into Europe’s renewable energy sector. The PPA is the company's second one with Statkraft, following a 50 MW solar PPA for a Spanish project made last year. The investment and asset management firm has enjoyed success in the competitive renewables market, with its aim to source investments that deliver high-quality environmental benefits and support sustainable growth.
