Medline Industries has recently completed a US$8 million community solar project at its distribution center in Montgomery, Alabama, USA. The solar panels will generate 8.5 million kWh of clean power annually. Residents who subscribe to the Medline community solar system can receive credits on their electricity bill for an estimated 10% in monthly savings.
Community solar projects are designed to offer homeowners and renters access to clean energy, even without installing rooftop panels on their homes. The completion of the Medline Industries project supports New York's efforts to transition to sustainable energy sources and increase the use of distributed solar power. The state aims to install 6 GW of distributed solar by 2025 and 10 GW by 2030, as outlined in its Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act.
With the project's completion, Medline's facility will have access to 40% of the clean energy produced, while the remaining 60% will be available for approximately 600 subscribers to the community solar service.
