Naturgy Energy Group SA, Repsol SA, and Reganosa have announced a proposal for a large-scale green hydrogen project in the town of Cerceda, Galicia, Spain. With a total investment of over EUR64 million (US$70.1 million), the H2 Meirama initiative aims to transform the site of a former coal-fired power plant into a hydrogen production facility.
The project will initially focus on establishing 30 MW of electrolysis capacity, leveraging the existing infrastructure of the now-defunct Meirama power plant. This capacity will enable the production of 4,500 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. As the project progresses, the facility will be expanded to 50 MW and eventually 200 MW in subsequent phases, with an expected annual output of around 30,000 tonnes of hydrogen.
This innovative initiative aligns with the regional government's requirements, as it not only complements strategic industrial value chains but also surpasses the minimum investment threshold of EUR 20 million.
