Lightsource bp, in partnership with Xcel Energy and McCarthy Building Companies, has started the commercial operation of the 293 MWdc Sun Mountain solar photovoltaic project located in Pueblo, Colorado, USA.
Lightsource bp has financed and will own and operate the Sun Mountain project, delivering the solar-generated electricity to Xcel Energy under a long-term power purchase agreement. The 293 MW solar farm is expected to generate enough power for up to 53,000 homes, offsetting over 400,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually.
McCarthy Building Companies was the Engineer, Procure, and Construct (EPC) contractor for the project which included the installation of 636,990 ultra-low carbon solar panels manufactured by Arizona-based First Solar and smart solar trackers manufactured by New Mexico-based Array Technologies.
