Brett Martin, an independent manufacturing company based in Northern Ireland, has announced that its facility in Mallusk, Newtownabbey is now connected to a 6.42MWp solar power plant. The installation was funded, developed and is now operated by Lightsource BP.
Located just over a mile away from the Brett Martin factory, the solar plant generates enough clean solar energy to power the equivalent of over 1,600 homes, providing approximately 14% of the centre’s annual electricity demand and an estimated saving of 2,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.
It was built on over 35 acres of locally-owned farmland, developed and constructed alongside an in-depth biodiversity management plan, detailing planting measures designed to support local wildlife. This planting plan includes seeding choices specifically designed to foster new insect and bird species, strengthening the biodiversity of the local area and providing significant environmental benefits to the surrounding farmland.
