Leeward Renewable Energy (LRE) has started work on its 196 MW Big Plain Solar photovoltaic (PV) project near London, Ohio, USA. The facility's renewable energy output will be sold to Verizon Communications under a long-term power purchase agreement.
LRE will implement various sustainable measures at Big Plain Solar as part of its mission to be responsible stewards of the land it develops and manages, including maintaining a soil health monitoring program and curating a 70-ac pollinator habitat.
As the project's engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, SOLV Energy will utilize First Solar's ultra-low carbon thin-film photovoltaic solar modules. LRE anticipates that the solar PV project will be operational by June 2023.
