Dominion Energy has received approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commission (SCC) for the development of the 2.64 GW Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project to be constructed 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach, USA. The SCC approved the construction of roughly 17 miles of new transmission lines and other onshore infrastructure that will be used to transport the clean, renewable energy generated offshore to homes and businesses all around Virginia.
The final SCC order confirms that CVOW satisfies all Virginia statutory requirements for rider cost recovery and the granting of a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity for the onshore infrastructure. The order also contains a performance requirement, although it doesn't go into specifics on what that performance requirement entails.
The US$9.8 billion wind project will have the capacity to generate enough energy to power up to 660,000 homes and is expected to be operational in 2026.
