Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, in the latest UK auction round, has earned a 15-year Contract for Difference (CfD) for its 350 MW solar and battery storage project in Kent, UK.
The Project Fortress received the development approval from Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) in May 2020. It is anticipated to produce enough renewable energy per year to satisfy the demands of approximately 100,000 UK homes and to help reduce carbon emissions by 164,450 tonnes in its first year of operations alone.
The solar farm intends to offer critical flexibility to enhance the UK power grid's energy security and stability and support the country's sustainable transition to net zero energy use. It also includes an extensive landscape and biodiversity management plan, that will add more than 3.5 km of native hedgerow screen planting across the site and seek to deliver a net gain of 65 percent in biodiversity.
The construction of the project is expected to begin by the end of 2022.
