Commercial operation starts for 260 MW/260 MWh battery energy storage project in USA

Vistra has started the commercial operation of its 260 MW/260 MWh DeCordova Energy Storage facility located in Granbury, Texas, in the USA.

The project consists of more than 3,000 individual battery modules, which can store enough energy for up to 130,000 homes. The batteries capture excess electricity from the grid, primarily overnight during high wind-output hours, and can release the power when customer demand is highest. The DeCordova project is the largest battery energy storage asset in the Lone Star State. The project supplies its electricity to the ERCOT grid.

DeCordova Energy Storage Facility uses lithium-ion technology placed in containers, which together with project inverters were supplied by SungrowMortenson provided engineering and construction expertise. The construction of the battery project started in June 2021 and was finished in less than a year.
