A consortium represented by Mitsubishi Corporation Energy Solutions Ltd. received notification from the government of Japan that the consortium members (Mitsubishi Corporation Energy Solutions Ltd., C-Tech Corporation, and Mitsubishi Corporation) have been appointed as operators of roughly 1,689 MW of offshore wind farms to be built in Japanese waters.

The first project is an 819 MW offshore wind farm installed off the coast of Yurihonjo City, Akita Prefecture. It will produce enough power to meet the power demands of approximately 600,000 Japanese households.

The second wind farm has an output of 479 MW to be located in Akita Port and Noshiro Port, in Akita Prefecture. The facility will be composed of 38 V117-4.2 MW turbines in total that will supply the equivalent of approximately 330,000 Japanese households. The installation will also include an onshore substation and transmission lines.

The third scheme involves the installation of a 390.6 MW offshore wind farm off the coast of the municipalities of Choshi, Asahi, Sosa, and Yokoshibahikari in Chiba Prefecture, west-central Japan. It will feature 31 wind turbines that will meet the power demands of approximately 280,000 Japanese households.

The consortium is partnering with companies including Amazon.com, Inc., NTT Anode Energy Corporation, and Kirin Holdings Company, Limited, on a regional promotion strategy and has already made concrete proposals under its exclusive public occupancy plan.
