The Government of Ireland has accepted the terms and conditions for its first offshore wind auction, which is anticipated to generate up to 2.5 GW of clean electricity, enough to power 2.5 million Irish households.
The Environment Minister received the Cabinet agreement to proceed with offshore renewable power support scheme plans (ORESS 1). The total aim for offshore wind in Ireland is 7 GW by 2030, with the first 2.5 GW expected to be delivered in 2026 or 2027.
Energy and project developers will compete to deliver energy through long-term contracts; the winning bidder will be determined by June of next year.
