The Iowa Utilities Board has given its approval for 591 MW Wind XII project of MidAmerican Energy, whose total cost is estimated to be US$922 million.
The board stated that MidAmerican Energy has satisfied the conditions in Iowa Code and is hence eligible to move forward with ratemaking principles associated with the project. But MidAmerican will still need its large coal fleet to meet customers' demand at times when the wind isn't blowing.
The company expects to complete Wind XII in late 2020.
