Infigen Energy has energized its 25 MW/52 MWh battery storage facility near 278 MW Lake Bonney wind farm complex, which consists of three wind farms that have a combined output of 50 GWh, located in South Australia.
The construction of the storage system was executed in two phases with a total cost of AUD38 million (US$25.8 million). The project has received AUD 10 million (USD 6.8 million) from the South Australia state government and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
The storage system uses Tesla Powerpack technology and is planned to be commissioned by the end of 2019. Infigen Energy will use the battery facility to provide flexible capacity and system security services to the South Australian ancillary services market.
