The Queensland state government has given development approval to a new 180 MW wind project near Gladstone.
The AUD350 million (US$236 million) wind farm will be built by Lacour Energy. It is expected to create 150 temporary jobs during the construction phase. The 50-turbine wind farm will be located on the Banana Range, an area known for its strong overnight winds. It will generate enough power to 120,000 homes.
Lacour Energy plans to begin construction towards the end of next year, and the facility would be in operation by the end of 2022.
