EDF Renewables has acquired a wind farm project in the Australian state of Queensland. The project is expected to have a power generating capacity of about 280 MW and also has approval for a battery storage component. The wind project, named Banana Range, has been purchased from Goldwind Australia and Lacour Energy.
The wind project is located in the Banana Shire, in central Queensland, about 20km west of Biloela and 120km southwest of the port of Gladstone. It has been implemented through the Orange Creek Energy Pty Ltd (OCE) vehicle.
The project has good wind resources, is close to the major transmission line, and located in the area where a central renewable energy zone has been proposed. The wind farm is currently in the late stage of feasibility, with work being carried out on the technical and environmental aspects, as well as social and economic-related issues. The timeline for construction is expected to be around 24 months. EDF plans to finish work on grid connections to be able to begin construction of the wind project late next year. The project will install up to 50 turbines to deliver the required capacity.
