India's Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS) has launched the sale of its wind energy assets through its IL&FS Wind Energy. The wind portfolio consists of 775 MW and has an estimated value of around INR 45 billion (USD 606 million).
It has been speculated that the sale of the wind portfolio is after the planned merger with the wind power operations of Orient Green Power Co Ltd (OGPL) has failed.
IL&FS needs to sell assets to cover for the debt that has been amassed to about INR910.9 billion (USD12.3933 billion).
HSBC has been appointed to initiate the sale process.
