Iberdrola has obtained environmental approval for an 86.4 MW hybrid photovoltaic and hydroelectric plant located in Extremadura, in the municipality of Cedillo, Spain.
The initiative, named HIDRO Cedillo, will incorporate over 160,000 photovoltaic modules with a stationary framework. The integration of multiple technologies enables the efficient utilization of the grid and minimizes the environmental footprint in project locations. With the capability to alternate between two technologies, the project lessens reliance on variable environmental conditions and mitigates limitations arising from potential resource shortages like wind or sunlight. This approach enhances the stability and efficiency of renewable production.
