Iberdrola has completed the planning approval process for the Windanker offshore wind farm and received a positive decision from the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH).
The project is progressing toward the beginning of construction in the German Baltic Sea. The Spanish company Windar is manufacturing the 21 foundation structures (monopiles and transition pieces), and production remains on schedule. This summer, the wind farm's foundations will be installed at sea, with the internal park cabling installation also set to commence later this year.
Windanker will feature 21 next-generation SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa, each generating approximately 15 MW of power. With a total installed capacity of 315 MW, the wind farm will be able to supply energy to 315,000 households and is scheduled to begin operations in 2026.
Vattenfall has made the final investment decision on the 1.6 GW Nordlicht 1 and 2 offshore wind farms located 85 km north of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea.
