Honda Motor and LG Energy Solution have decided to build a US$4.4 billion joint venture (JV) battery plant in Ohio, United States.
Honda will invest an additional US$700 million to retool three Ohio plants and create 300 new jobs in an effort to increase production of electric vehicles (EVs). Honda expects to commence manufacture and sales of EVs in 2026.
The two businesses plan to begin building in early 2023 and complete the new plant approximately 40 miles (64 km) southwest of Columbus, Ohio by the end of 2024. As mass production of lithium-ion batteries commences by the end of 2025, the plant is expected to have an annual capacity of around 40 GWh.
