The Melbourne Market Authority has opened a 2.4 MW solar car park, the largest rooftop solar system in Victoria, Australia. The car park will function as a loading and parking spot for trucks, with the system producing 3,000 MWh of solar energy per year. The system was installed by NGE / Beon Energy Solutions, with the use of 450 W LG panels and SolarEdge commercial inverters, making it the first of a three-phase project to install solar panels on existing market and warehouse roofs at the authority’s 67-ha facility.
The solar panel system is estimated to offset 10% of the wholesale market’s yearly energy consumption while cutting down current carbon emissions by 1.77 tons.
The authority is a government-backed organization that connects fresh flower and food growers with wholesalers, distributors, and retailers to guarantee production availability across Australia.
