Siemens Energyhas announced that four high voltage transformer that will receive and transmit the electricity produced by the 924 MW Sunrise Wind offshore wind farm to the mainland have arrived in New York, USA.
As to the statement made by Ørsted and Eversource, the project developers, Sunrise Wind is the pioneer offshore wind project in the United States that uses an HVDC system.
In 2021, a contract was awarded to the collaborative consortium comprising Siemens Energy and Aker Solutions. As part of the agreement, Siemens Energy will be responsible for delivering the system comprehensively, including onshore civil work, in partnership with local companies. Aker Solutions, on the other hand, will be tasked with delivering the offshore platform, which consists of a steel jacket substructure and a topside platform deck housing the necessary electrical equipment.
Located about 50 km (30 miles) east of Long Island, in New York, the wind project will supply green energy to nearly 600,000 homes.
