Hellenic Petroleum (HELPE) has completed the acquisition of 18 solar farms with a total installed capacity of 204 MW located in Western Macedonia. Hellenic buys the projects from juwi through its wholly owned subsidiary Elpe Renewables.
HELPE plans to develop the 204 MW capacity in Kozani region in the coal dependent parts of Western Macedonia close to existing coal-fired power plants.
Total cost of all the projects in the 204 MW portfolio is estimated to be around EUR130 million (US$152.8 million). Construction will begin in October 2020 with commercial operations planned for Q1/2022.
The project is expected to produce 350 GWh, energy enough to supply 75,000 households with power and save 320,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
