Harmony Energy has commissioned the 98 MW Pillswood energy storage project in East Yorkshire, UK.
Using a Tesla 2-hour Megapack system, the system is able to store up to 196 MWh of electricity in a single cycle, sufficient energy to power around 300,000 British households for two hours.
The site is close to National Grid's Creyke Beck substation, the same connection point envisaged for phases of Dogger Bank, the first phase of which is scheduled to go active in the summer of 2023. Batteries help National Grid maximize the effectiveness of wind farms by reducing the length of time they must be shut down owing to supply/demand imbalances or network constraints.
