Global energy giant General Electric has entered into an agreement with Walcha Energy, a partnership between MirusWind and Energy Estate, to co-develop the 500 MW pumped hydro storage project at the Dungowan Dam in the New England region of New South Wales.
The pumped hydro storage facility will form part of the Walcha Energy Project that will combine wind and solar energy generation with pumped hydro storage and other storage options to provide up to 4,000 MW of new clean generation.
GE Renewable Energy Hydro Solutions will provide technical and commercial support in the development of the project that is estimated to store energy for up to eight hours.
The Walcha Energy Project will be established in the town of Walcha, located approximately 55km south of Armidale on the New England Tableland, in New South Wales, Australia.
