Fraport AG has installed a 13 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) demonstration project at the southwest end of Runway 18 West at Frankfurt airport, Germany.
The solar system consists of 20 8.4 kW PV panels. Once fully built, the solar farm is expected to cover 2,600 m parallel to the runway.
In contrast to existing PV systems at the airport, the panels for this new system are positioned vertically, as rather than diagonally. Dual-sided glass modules absorb light from both the east and west.
