The environmental protection agency, Fepam, has issued a license for the 50 MW biomass project in Pinheiro Machado, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
The facility is owned by local company, Pellco Brasil, and uses ground logs, bark, twigs, bundles of trees and rice hulls as fuel. The pellets will be exported to countries such as Japan and the US, to be burned in power plant boilers.
Pellco Brasil will be investing a total of BRL 1 billion (USD 255.5m) for the development of the project.
