European Commission to provide aid to 4 floating wind demonstration projects in France

The European Commission has approved to provide aid to the four floating wind demonstration projects in France:

  • 24 MW Groix Belle Ile floating wind project in Atlantic Ocean
  • 24 MW Golf du Lion floating wind project in Mediterranean Sea
  • 24 MW Eolmed floating wind project in Mediterranean Sea
  • 24 MW Provence Grand Large floating wind project in Mediterranean Sea

The projects will each feature a particular combination of a floater, 3 or 4 turbines, and cables.

Offshore wind farms will receive investment and operating aids. The US Department of Energy will fund US$28 million for the offshore wind projects through the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) program, Aerodynamic Turbines, Lighter and Afloat, with Nautical Technologies and Integrated Servo-control (ATLANTIS).
