Grid Connection secured for 30 MW Floating wind farm in France

French transmission system operator (TSO) Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE) has signed a deal for the interconnection of the 30 MW Eolmed floating wind park built in French waters.

The company was in charge of the design, procurement, installation, termination, testing, and commissioning of a 23 km long, 66 kV static, three-core export undersea cable with EPR insulation. Prysmian also provided and constructed a 66 kV dynamic undersea export tail with EPR insulation, which links the floating electrical hub (FEH) of EolMed's floating wind farm, which is presently being built, to the onshore grid.

Installed 15 km off Gruissan in water depths of about 60 m, the EolMed floating wind farm will consist of three Vestas V164-10.0 MW wind turbines set on BW Ideol's Damping pool floating foundations.

The project, developed by Qair, TotalEnergies, and BW Ideol, was planned to be commissioned in mid-2024. It is currently projected that the floaters will be installed at the project site beginning in June 2025, with the final commissioning scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
