The Governments of Estonia and Latvia have chosen the locations in their respective areas of the Baltic Sea for the installation of their joint offshore wind energy project, ELWIND. The capacity of the wind farm will range between 700 and 1,000 MW.
According to study and analysis, the sea area west of Sorve is the most ideal development area for the implementation of a joint project in the Estonian seas. The Latvian government confirmed in September 2022 that the country's portion of the ELWIND wind farm is located in Kurzeme, between Liepaja and Ventspils.
The tender for the project development is set for 2026. Its construction is anticipated in 2028 and commercial operation is scheduled by 2030.
