Equinor has officially launched the 88 MW Hywind Tampen floating offshore wind project located in the North Sea 140 km from shore in 260-300 m of water between the Snorre and Gullfaks oil and gas platforms, in Norway. The wind facility is set to reduce CO2 emissions significantly.
The Hywind Tampen project comprises 11 wind turbines based on Equinor's innovative floating Hywind concept. With a system capacity of 88 MW, it is expected to meet around 35% of the annual electricity demand for the Snorre A and B, as well as Gullfaks A, B, and C platforms.
The project's cost estimate has risen from NOK5 billion to NOK 7.4 billion (US$694.5 million) due to various factors, such as COVID-related expenses, delayed deliveries, and quality issues.
