Masdar has awarded Larsen & Toubro (L&T) an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the development of 1,800 MW Phase 6 of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai, UAE.
The solar park will reduce over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Spread over 20 sq km, the solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant will become operational in three phases.
The project's power purchase agreement was signed by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC - Masdar and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). DEWA is the only entity that will purchase power produced by the plant, keeping a 60% ownership in the venture.
Based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is the world's largest single-site solar park. By 2030, its production capacity is anticipated to reach 5,000 MW.
