Enel SpA, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power RSA, has started the commercial operation of its 145 MW Garob wind farm project that is developed in the Northern Cape province of South Africa.
Enel has invested about EUR200 million (US$225.84 million) to develop the wind farm. The project has secured a 20-year power purchase agreement with the South African utility Eskom.
The project can generate up to 573 GWh of energy per year and offsets about 600,000 tonnes of carbon emission per year.
