The Greefspan-II solar PV farm in South Africa, with a capacity of 55 MW AC/63.2 MW DC, has reached the commercial operation date (COD).
GRS, part of Spanish solar and storage-focused group Gransolar, has served as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor for the project. The EPC job has been delivered in partnership with the Spanish engineering group TSK and South Africa’s Umbono Energy Partners. GRS is also providing operation and maintenance (O&M) services.
The Greefspan-II PV plant is located in the province of the Northern Cape. The project was awarded under Round-4 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) of South Africa. The plant is equipped with 188,822 PV modules, which will generate around 150,000 MWh of clean power per year, enough to cover the needs of 20,000 South African households.
African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM) holds 50% interest in Greefspan-II.
