Swiss utility Elektrizitaetswerke des Kantons Zurich (EKZ), in partnership with Smartenergy Invest AG, is set to invest up to EUR35 million (US$41.4 million) for the development of a solar photovoltaic facility in the municipality of Portimao in Portugal.
The Central Fotovoltaica Morgado de Arge project will consist of 110,000 solar panels spread over an area of 100 hectares of land area.
Once operational, the project is expected to generate up to 90 MWh of energy per year.
